I used to always run in hats and then changed over to the headwear wraps, etc., because hats were really making my head hot, sweaty and uncomfortable. So when BibRave offered up the opportunity to test a hat that was supposed to be “cooler” I knew I had to give it a try. The BOCO Gear Run Hat was a perfect solution to the issue. The hat is made of a lightweight wicking polyester material that has slightly thicker panels on the top and sides for sun protection (so it isn’t just mesh). The Dry Tech polyester mesh panels are on the side that allow to keep your head to cool while running or whatever activity you may be participating in. Now even with the cooling panels and the wicking technology, your head is still going to sweat but the band has a wicking material lining it as well. Not once when running did sweat ever drip into my eyes or down my face anywhere, and there were some extremely hot and humid days when I ran.
A simple adjustable snap buckle in the back is how to tighten or loosen the hat. There is a small pouch/pocket area within the hat for the excess wrap so it doesn’t hang down the back of your head and stays nice and tidy. Each run I had when it was windy out I never had a problem with it blowing off yet it never felt tight either. I have to be honest, I was amazed that it never blew off. There were some seriously gusty days out there where it still stayed on. I will say that the brim of the hat doesn’t really bend; it’s more of a flexible/soft material brim. Not a lot of structure to it which I dislike a little bit but it doesn’t ruin the overall quality of the product. BOCO Gear really has a great product with its Run Hat.
One another benefit that is truly awesome: it’s machine washable and there is no worry about it getting damaged in the machine. I’ve had hats before that I’ve washed and they come out whole but their brims take a beating or the back (if a connect strap) becomes weathered and not as sturdy. No fear of that here. Matter of fact, the brim being designed the way it is helps to not have to worry about it and makes it a pro to machine wash it.
I 100% believe this hat would be a great addition to your run gear collection. They have tons of styles and colors. You can also go to their website and custom order hats from them as well. They also have visors and a variety of other athlete hats as well (think triathletes, etc.) and they dabble with cold weather gear as well.
